Sharkfins...yum yum?
Why do some people like shark fin soup so much?
Is it because it's delicious?
Is it because you have the luxury to?
Or is it because you think it's good for your health?
Well, no doubt, sharkfin soup is delicious. I, myself, have tried it a few times before. With a bit of pepper and lots of vinegar. Looks yummy, tastes even better. I'll probably continue taking it on special occasions have I not known about the process of finning. Yes, many of us may have already known how it is done. Poaching them, slashing their fins off, and throwing back the--finless and still alive--sharks back into the ocean to sink to death. So, why are so many sharks still killed daily? Why are you still so in love with sharkfin soup like it's a delicacy? Why must you order sharkfin soup as part of the menu during special occasions?
Thanks to people like you (who chop off fins for a living), sharks are finally in danger of becoming extinct after surviving for more than 420million years (long before dinosaur existed). Thanks to people like you, sharks have become endangered species and if they were to become extinct, the whole marine ecosystem is going to be affected and in one way or another, we're going to be affected as well.
They say human is the smartest creation of all living things. We can talk, we can read and write, we can do so many different things that every other living things must have yearned for but will never be able to do. However, sometimes, humans do stupid things like poaching sharks, seals, and all these illegal things that could get them caught. To earn a living, do you really have to kill so many sharks? What you want is really to earn more money than you have and want. It's a good thing more and more people are now seeing to these illegal poaching and protesting against it, I like ^^
Sharks are no more healthier than us than you think. They have healing powers because they don't get cancer? Well, that's just plain bullshit. Sharks are fierce so you should do everything to reduce the number? Well, if you don't provoke them and treat them with respects, why would they attack you? The only reason why they attack us (less than 10 cases a year) is because of curiosity. Sharks are the one that own the ocean, no?
Last but not least, look around you. If people tell you they LOOOOOVE to drink sharkfin soup (and you hate it), make them watch the movie/documentary called "Sharkwater" by Rob Stewart. Or if you are one sharkfin lover yourself, then you should really watch this documentary. It's not boring at all, unlike every other documentaries you've watched. Really. So, watch it now and save the sharks!
Sharkfins...still think it's yum yum?
